Sudan’s Blue Nile Conflict Forces Mass Displacement, UN Calls for Urgent Aid Access
The United Nations on Monday voiced alarm over the growing humanitarian crisis in Blue Nile state, where conflict has displaced thousands and blocked aid operations.
According to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, an estimated 4,000 civilians from Ullu and other towns in Bau locality are now making the dangerous journey north-east toward Ed Damazine, the state capital.
Dujarric said aid organizations have been unable to reach the affected areas because of intensifying insecurity and bureaucratic restrictions.
“We must ensure safe, sustained and unhindered humanitarian access to all people in need,” he emphasized.
The UN also noted that Blue Nile is facing additional strain from new arrivals fleeing South Sudan, further complicating the already dire humanitarian situation.
Humanitarian groups warn that without immediate access, displaced families could face severe hunger, disease outbreaks, and lack of shelter as the conflict drags on.
