Sudanese Army Downs Drones Over Port Sudan and Atbara Amid RSF Escalation
Sudanese forces said they intercepted multiple drones in Port Sudan and Atbara on Sunday, while Civil Defence teams declared victory over a series of oil depot fires blamed on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Lieutenant General Othman Al-Atta announced that all fires at strategic fuel depots and warehouses in Port Sudan had been fully contained. The blazes, which began on Tuesday after alleged RSF attacks, forced civilian evacuations and raised fears of a major fuel disaster.
“The situation was extremely dangerous due to the massive petroleum storage facilities, but our forces deployed precise firefighting plans using high-expansion foam,” Al-Atta explained.
Meanwhile, the army said its air defence systems intercepted drones in Port Sudan—under RSF pressure for a seventh straight day—as well as in Atbara, River Nile state, where five drones were engaged near the city’s airport.
The RSF has intensified its drone operations against army-controlled cities, extending strikes across Northern, River Nile, Red Sea, White Nile, and Kosti states, raising regional security concerns and disrupting civilian life.
