At least three people were killed, four injured and 17 others abducted during an armed attack in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) on Wednesday, local officials said.
Jacob Werchum Jouk, Information Minister in the GPAA, said the assault occurred in Manyabol payam of Gumuruk County at around 2:00 p.m. He accused armed youth from neighboring Jonglei State of carrying out the raid and reported that more than 375 cattle were stolen.
“Three people were killed and four others injured. Twelve children and five women were abducted,” Jouk said, describing the incident as a criminal act.
He urged authorities in Jonglei State to investigate the attack, ensure the safe return of those abducted, and recover the stolen livestock.
In response, Jonglei State Information Minister Nyamar Lony Thichiot confirmed that her office had been notified and that an investigation was underway.
“A team has been sent to investigate the matter, and we will provide updates once they return with their findings,” she said.
Cattle raiding and child abductions remain frequent in the greater Jonglei region, where recurring inter-communal violence continues despite government efforts to contain it.
