Sudan’s Burhan Slams Israeli Strike in Doha, Backs Qatar and Palestinian Cause
Sudan’s leader, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has strongly condemned last week’s Israeli missile strike in Doha, calling it “overt aggression” and voicing full solidarity with Qatar.
Speaking on Monday at an emergency Arab-Islamic summit, Burhan described the deadly attack as a violation of international law and a threat to regional peace. The strike targeted a residential building housing senior members of Hamas’s political bureau, killing several people, including a Qatari security official, according to Qatari authorities.
Qatar denounced the attack as “state terrorism” and a breach of sovereignty, while the UN Security Council held an emergency session to address the crisis. UN officials warned that the incident marked a “dangerous escalation” that could spark wider conflict across the region.
Burhan stressed that the strike “sends a disturbing message to the entire world” and undermines ongoing peace efforts in Gaza. He accused Israel of ignoring international law and warned that failure to respond would only embolden further aggression.
“Sudan affirms its full support—leadership, government, and people—for Qatar,” Burhan declared, praising Doha’s role in defending the Palestinian cause. He reiterated that the only path to lasting peace in the region is the creation of an independent Palestinian state, cautioning that any alternative would perpetuate conflict.
As Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, Burhan concluded by urging Arab and Islamic countries to unite, stating that a common front is the best way to “restore respect for international law and influence the course of events.”
