Three Dead, Dozens Injured in Drone Attack on Sudan Shield Forces in Al Jazirah
A deadly drone strike linked to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck Tumbul, Al Jazirah state, on Wednesday, killing at least three people and wounding 10 others during a military anniversary event, local sources confirmed.
The attack targeted celebrations for the Sudanese army’s 71st anniversary, organized by the Sudan Shield Forces, an ally of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Commander Abu Aqla Kaikal, senior military officials, and members of the Popular Resistance were present.
The drone exploded between Al-Shorouq School and Al-Inaya Medical Clinic, injuring civilians, including schoolchildren.
In an official statement, the Sudan Shield Forces blamed the RSF, describing the strike as a “terrorist act” that caused the death and injury of citizens, including three children.
Commander Kaikal downplayed the attack, calling it “the last breath of a collapsing militia.” He announced that his fighters would redeploy to Kordofan frontlines to reinforce efforts against RSF positions and relieve pressure on El Fasher, North Darfur.
The Sudan Shield Forces, which defected from the RSF in October 2024, have since been critical in helping the army retake Khartoum and Al Jazirah states.
Widely shared video clips captured the moment soldiers fired at the drone using improvised weapons mounted on a donkey-drawn cart, underscoring the army’s challenges in countering RSF drone warfare.
This marks the second such attack in months. In May 2025, an RSF drone strike on a Sudan Shield camp in Butana killed 13 people, including seven military personnel.
