Baldago Secured as Army Advances Against RSF-SPLM-N Alliance
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) said on Wednesday that they had regained control of key areas in southern Blue Nile state, dealing a blow to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their rebel allies.
In a statement, army spokesman Brig. Gen. Nabil Abdallah announced that the 4th Infantry Division had “cleared the Baldago area and its surroundings” of RSF fighters and forces loyal to Joseph Tuka, a senior commander in the SPLM-N (al-Hilu faction) allied with the paramilitary group.
Footage released by the army showed soldiers celebrating in Baldago, with a field commander declaring that government forces had taken three positions and were preparing to move toward Yabus.
The army’s latest advance follows months of clashes in Blue Nile, where the RSF had initially gained momentum after victories in Sennar state in late 2024. However, the SAF has recently mounted counteroffensives, gradually pushing RSF fighters closer to the South Sudan border.
Humanitarian groups warn the conflict is taking a heavy toll, with over 100,000 civilians displaced to the capital Damazin, straining already limited resources.
