Sudanese Army Launches Major Offensive Against RSF in North Kordofan
Violent clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intensified in North Kordofan on Sunday, marking another week of heavy fighting in the region.
The army has renewed operations across south, north, and west Kordofan, aiming to secure Darfur-bound routes and break the siege of El Fasher. The RSF is actively defending its positions, seeking to block the army’s strategic advances.
According to local reports, heavy battles erupted along the Omdurman-Bara export road, near the RSF-controlled town of Jabra al-Sheikh, as the army attempts to secure the crucial trade route linking Omdurman to Bara city. RSF forces continue to hold key positions in Umm Qirfa, Rahid al-Nuba, and Jabra al-Sheikh.
The army recaptured Bara on September 11, which had been under RSF control since the early stages of the conflict. On the western front of El Obeid, the 5th Infantry Division shelled RSF gatherings in al-Ayyara, while warplanes conducted airstrikes on Al-Hammadi and Al-Dubaibat.
RSF troops had briefly advanced near El Obeid after taking al-Ayyara, pushing army forces to the city outskirts. Clashes in Area 13 saw the army repelling the attack and regaining control of the neighborhood.
The escalating North Kordofan battles highlight the region’s strategic role as a corridor between Khartoum and Darfur, with both sides deploying artillery, airstrikes, and ground troops to gain the upper hand.
