Sudanese Forces Intercept RSF Drone Strike Targeting El Obeid and SLM Leader Mustafa Tambour
The Sudanese Armed Forces announced on Saturday that they foiled a coordinated drone strike by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Obeid, North Kordofan. The attack reportedly aimed at SLM leader Mustafa Tambour, who also serves as Central Darfur governor.
Inshirah Ali Qaddoum, SLM spokesperson, stated that the army’s air defences neutralized 15 suicide drones directed at Tambour, army positions, and city infrastructure. No losses were recorded.
Brigadier General Nabil Abdallah praised the army’s response and vowed that such attacks would not impede their offensive operations. The SLM faction, allied with the army, also played a role in recapturing Bara town last week, a key strategic position in North Kordofan.
Military analysts say the Bara victory strengthens the army’s position for an advance toward Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan, currently under siege by the RSF and allied rebel groups.
The drone incident underscores the growing threat of unmanned aerial attacks in Sudan’s armed conflict, highlighting the RSF’s reliance on drones for targeted strikes against political and military figures.
