Sudanese security forces have freed 65 foreign hostages from human traffickers in Kassala state, near the Eritrean and Ethiopian borders. Some hostages were found in critical condition, bound in chains, authorities said.
The operation is part of a larger crackdown on criminal gangs and trafficking networks. Officials also seized 10 stolen vehicles, motorcycles, and foreign liquor.
Acting Governor Al-Sadiq Mohamed Al-Azraq vowed a zero-tolerance policy on crime, while army officials confirmed the raid follows a planned security strategy.
The rescue comes after UNHCR recently sheltered 321 people from Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Somalia during a similar campaign. Sudan’s porous borders and internal conflicts make trafficking a persistent challenge.
The successful operation highlights Sudan’s push to combat human trafficking and organized crime in vulnerable eastern regions.
