Lawmakers in Yei River County have resumed legislative activities after the council was closed by a former commissioner three years ago.
Council chairperson Claudios Milla said the reopening marks an important step toward addressing governance and community challenges.
He said the council will work on drafting bylaws and ensuring the implementation of the Local Government Act 2009.
Religious leaders also welcomed the reopening. Fr. Emmanuel Lodongo Sebit of the Catholic Diocese of Yei urged lawmakers to carefully deliberate on laws that could help reduce violence in the county.
